Hmong Hemp Indigo Vest with Stitched Collar
This vest is woven by the Hmong people of Northern Vietnam. Raw cotton and raw hemp grown in the area are loomed by hand to create the base materials. The cloth is then dipped in indigo dye repeatedly to give the dark blue/black color. Then in their free time, Hmong women spend hours creating the intricate needlework design that adorns the vest. Finally, the pieces are put together in to a beautiful, wearable piece of art.
This vest is worn by both Hmong men and women in day to day life. A distinguishing feature is the collar, which consists of a beautiful hand stitched design. Constructed from hemp and lined with cotton, this is both a stylish and comfortable piece of clothing.
